It's a cold, end of January day here. There is mostly ice, a little snow and the surrounding corn fields are bare. There is still evidence of last years garden in our back yard. Aaaahhh the garden. I miss our garden! It has nearly consumed my thoughts over the last week. Shawn and I recently looked over a seed catalog, putting together a list of what seeds we will order. I have started growing lettuce inside...mostly to see if I can. :) It sure would be nice to have some home grown veggies available over these cold months! I've also decided to try and grow some herbs indoors. I only have basil started right now but I also hope to start some mint and lemon verbana. I tried last year but managed to kill everything I grew. I have learned a thing or two since last year and figure it's worth trying again! It'll be a little something until we have the garden up and running again.
We have high hopes for our garden this year. LOTS of goals in mind. We hope to build a new fence around the garden as we had lots of furry pests enjoying our garden with us last summer. Ideally we will have a wood frame with the garden fencing. Not only do we hope to grow more fruits and veggies to eat and share, but we plan on being better about canning the produce as well. The herb garden will be moved from the back yard to the front. Time permitting, the front yard will be revamped to include, flowers, herbs and edible flowers.
